Board of Management Report 2014

Board of Management Report to Parents and Parents Association on Thursday May 29th 2014.

The following is a summary of points presented by the Principal and Chairperson of the Board of Management to parents and the Parents Association at their AGM on Thursday May 29th 2014:

  • Grant received from DES to build 4 stand alone classrooms and 4 resource rooms…building due to start in September 2014.At Planning stage.
  • Grant received for Summer Works to replace the school boiler…work to be completed by September 2014.
  • Patio area to be redeveloped along with kitchen area.
  • 3 classrooms have had new flooring and 6 classroom have had their toilets re-tiled.
  • Capitation Grant of  €83,386 given to school for school year 2013/14(€173 per child) . Comes in 2 phases – January we get 70% which was €58,370.20 and in June we get 30% which is €25,015.80
  • Minor Works grant of €8,917 also received.This has been re-introduced as a “once off” until further notice.
  • A number of policies developed in association with BOM and parents include:
  • Transition Policy
  • Updating of Anti Bullying Policy
  • Uniform Questionnaire.
  • School Self Evaluation Process developed in school. School Self Improvement plan includes the following areas:
  • Phonics …Junior and Senior end of school
  • Comprehension Skills
  • Assessment of learning
  • Assessment for learning
  • Number incl Numberworld in Senior Inf and 1st classes.
  • Additional supplementary readers for Junior end of school.
  • Ipads and ipad trolley purchased from PA fundraising.
  • Book Rental Scheme..funding will be coming from DES in 2015 and 2016.
  • Standardised test results continue to be very high and report on 2nd, 4th and 6th classes to be sent to DES.
  • Average attendance over the year has been 96.7%
  • Special Needs area continues to grow…7 Special Ed teachers…9.5 SNA’s.We still have to fight and lobby for resources.
  • New Deputy Principal appointed in November 2013..M/s Fagan.
  • The school has received its 6th Science and Maths Award and thanks to those involved in our Maths Day.
  • The school has been successful in achieving the Digital Schools Award….one of 72 schools nationally!!
  • Marleys Got Talent and Seachtain na Gaeilge a great success this year.
  • School participating in Blue Star Flag..visit by assessor and Gay Mitchell MEP.
  • Numerous Sporting achievements in Athletics, GAA, Soccer,Croke Park.
  • Great success by the school Quiz Team in getting to All Ireland Finals and coming 2nd in South Co Dublin Library Quiz.
  • School Walk…a great success and an event where the whole school community come together!!
  • Confirmations and Communions a great success…thanks to all involved.
  • Tremendous effort put into Xmas Fair..thanks to all involved and for all the fundraising re: Sound System, Mics and  Stage.
  • Three engagements on staff and 2 new babies for teachers!!!
