Science in Divine Word
Conor Hand a past pupil of the school is a science
student in Maynooth. Last June he guided 3rd, 4th,
and 5th classes through a series of chemistry workshops. He also
worked with the children while they studied natural habitats around the school
grounds. Everyone found it to be both an educational and a very enjoyable
experience. Our thanks to Conor. We hope to see him again soon!!
Bubble
Show
On Thursday the 17th and 22nd
of September the two third classes had a great time at the ‘Bubble, Don’t Burst
it’ interactive workshop in the Science Gallery at Trinity College. The
children had the opportunity to stand in the centre of a large bubble, they
marvelled at the colourful patterns displayed as the saw various lasers shining
through the bubbles. They made bubbles of all shapes and sizes!! A great time
was enjoyed by all.

Astronomy Ireland
In November we had a visit from Kevin Sweeney from Astronomy Ireland. 2009 was International year of Astronomy and so Kevin gave a great visual presentation to all the classes from Junior infants to sixth class. His talk was very interesting. The children learned a lot about the planets, stars, asteroids and galaxies!! Kevin gave a lot of time to answering the questions asked by the children. He was very impressed by their level of knowledge and more importantly the ‘great manners and wonderful interest’ shown by all the children. Thanks to our parents association for part funding this visit.
Irish Wildlife Trust
Andrew Fleming is working with the children from the two fourth classes this year (2009-2010). The children are involved in a series of workshops. They are learning about the local environment. They are visiting the local park,St. Enda’s, looking at a slide show, participating in an environmental quiz and making bird boxes and much more. Andrew’s enthusiasm is contagious!!!
Science Experiment
Fun!!
The children brought in a science
experiment into the school on Monday the 1st February. The children demonstrated the experiments
to their own class. The experiments were displayed on the corridors
around the school. Parents were welcome in to visit the school to look at the experiments.
