Con O'Callaghan's Visit to Divine Word

Con O’Callaghan is a Dublin Senior footballer who came to our school today to congratulate our two Senior Football Teams. Both these teams competed in Croke Park on Friday 28th of October 2022. The Senior Girls’ Team coached by Ms Hynes and Mr Conlon beat St. Marnock’s, Portmarnock to bring back the Corn Comhar Linn. The boys’ Senior Team coached by Mr Clabby and Mr Timmons beat Scoil Chrónáin, Ráth Cúil to win the Corn Chlanna Gael.

All the students and staff in Divine Word gathered in the hall to welcome out visitor. Con was asked some interesting questions by the pupils in our school.

What sports did you played when you were younger?

Conn played lots of sport when he was younger. His brothers and himself were not allowed to watch TV or play devices until 6pm. They spent every afternoon outside playing sport after their homework.

Who was the toughest player you played against?

Michael Fitzsimons, another Cuala man.

Who were your Sporting Heroes when you were growing up?

Con mentioned Stephen Cluxton, Lionel Messi and Brian O’Driscoll. He admired their devotion to training.

Why did you get into GAA?

The reason he got into Gaa was because his whole family played it. His Dad and his older brother played GAA.

Some Junior Infants asked Con what he was getting for Christmas.

He hasn’t sent his letter yet but he hopes to get new football boots and socks from his Mammy.

Dublin is a great team. Who would win in a fight between The Hulk and Superman?

Con got the right answer when he said that Superman would win according to our Junior Infants.

Con and the Student Council then officially opened our colourful new courtyard that the Parents’ Association have funded.
