As part of the Meet the Scientist Webinar Series, our 6th Class pupils took part in a fascinating session exploring the question: "How can concerts create mini-earthquakes?"
The webinar introduced the concept of seismic activity being recorded during large events, specifically focusing on a real-life example—a Taylor Swift concert! We learned how the energy and movement of thousands of excited fans dancing and jumping together can create vibrations strong enough to register on seismographs, much like a small earthquake. The students were amazed to discover how science and everyday events can connect in such unexpected ways.
It was an eye-opening and engaging experience that sparked lots of discussion and curiosity. We’re already looking forward to the next session in the series!
