National COW Day

National COW Day

Today is National COW Day (Cycle on Wednesdays/Weekdays). 102 children in Divine Word National School cycled to school today.  The bike racks were packed. A special well done to Mr O'Connell's Fifth Class.  22 students cycled today.  In our Third classes, Mr Lynch's class had 16 cyclists and Ms Dempsey's class had 14.

There are multiple environmental and health benefits to cycling to school, but most importantly cycling is one of the most efficient and rewarding ways to get to school. Cycling, as a mode of travel, is on the increase with more people choosing to cycle for shorter journeys.

Blue Day

Blue Day

Today we celebrated Blue Day.  All the children wore blue clothes and we learned about saving water.  Ms Larkin's Senior Infant Class went on a blue hunt around the school and wrote about it.  They are learning about the different bodies of water.  They listened, danced and sang the Water Cycle song on Go Noddle.   They tried to make our own rain in a glass jar.  It was a busy day. See gallery for some photos.

Wellness week 2022

Discover what the children thought about Wellness Week 2022

Mindful Monday - Lucy 6th Class

"Our class did yoga with an instructor that visited for the week. It lasted for about 40 minutes. We all felt relaxed after and then we did a guided meditation. We closed our eyes and imagined a lot of different feelings. Some other classes listened to calming music or did some mindful colouring".

Feel-Good Friday - Andy, 5th Class

"We made some delicious Rice Krispie buns. We went out in the lovely weather and played some games of relay races, followed by some rounders and a race. When we came in we played some fun board games. Then to calm ourselves down we did some relaxing mindful colouring. To finish off the day, we did some art. Now that is a Feel-Good Friday".

Thoughtful Thursday - Michael, 5th Class

"We encouraged everyone to be more thoughtful. Our class got compliment sheets where you have to think of eight nice compliments about the person. The teachers did it too. Some classes did yoga as well. Thoughtful Thursday was good fun".

Wellbeing Wednesday - Amy, 3rd Class

"Wellbeing Week was great. We did a mindful walk and compliment sheets about the children in the class. We did mindful colouring sheets and some Yoga. We did lots of Go Noodle!"

Thankful Tuesday - Shane, 3rd Class

"As part of Thankful Tuesday, we wrote thank you letters. I sent one and I got two from my friends. In the card we said thank you for being such a good friend (or teacher) and we were encouraged to be thankful for the day".

Sixth Class Sweet Sale

Sixth Class Sweet Sale

The two Sixth Classes did a tremendous job today selling sweets and chocolates to the rest of the children and staff in the school.   The children bought treats and entered numerous competitions.  Luckily the sun shone. They raised a lot of money for two worthy charities Autism Ireland and Dogs for the Disabled.  The day finished with a whole school Bingo over Zoom. Thanks to all the parents for their generous donations of prizes, chocolates and sweets to make the day a wonderful success. See the Gallery for Photos of our Sweet Sale.
