Senior Sports Day
Another active day at Divine Word. This time it was for third class, fourth class, fifth class and sixth class. All the children were allocated a team named after a different country. They competed in the mat race, Tug of War, Benchball, clothes race, GAA matchdes, soccer matches, Moonball games and the Great Welly Throw.
Four teams: Spain, Portugal, Italy and Colombia reached the final and competed in the final obstacle race. Spain were victorious.
Afterwards the male and female staff competed in a Tug of War. Well done to all the ladies of Divine Word.
There was the traditional Great Jelly Race for all classes to round off the day. Thanks to all the staff for organising the day. Thanks to the Parents' Association for providing the fruit and vegetables.
Outdoor Classroom Day
All classes in our school participated in Outdoor Classroom Day. Children were learning Maths, doing Art, picking up litter, visiting local parks, reading and planting all outside. See our gallery for some pictures.
Trip to Padraig Pearse by John Bourke. Last week Ms Gallaher's Class went to the Padraig Pearse Museum. We walked to St. Enda's Park where the museum is located. First, we got a tour of Padraig Pearse's old house which he converted to a school. We went into all the rooms and learned a lot. Then we went into the museum section. There were lots of intersting displays. We had a great time at the museum.
Divine Word is an active participant in the "School Inclusion Model (SIM) – In-School Therapy Project". An NCSE Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist work in partnership with us, to build teacher and school capacity across the continuum of support framework
Céilí Mór sa Chlós
Today we celebrated Lá Glas in our school. Bhíomar ag damsha, ag canadh agus ag éisteacht le ceol. Bhí an-spórt againn. Everyone was wearning green. The sun shone. Ms Larkin organised three Céilís out in the basketball court. The older classes were partnered up with the younger classes and have been practising the Staicín Eorna and Baillaí Luimnigh for weeks. Many students danced and played musical instruments. Ms Larkin danced. Classes sang. See the Gallery for more pictures.

Ms Basquel's First Class Writing
Please read Ms Basquel's First Class Recount Writing on their Sponsored Walk in the School Walk Gallery. Such beautiful handwriting and pictures.
Our school had great fun celebrating Science Week... Mr Fallon's Class made a Diet Coke experiment and made lava lamps.
Our School Walk
On Tuesday 5th October all our classes went on a sponsored walk. Junior Infants to Fourth Class went to Marlay Park. All the Fifth and Sixth Classes climbed up Three Rock. A lovely day had by all. Thanks to the Parents' Association for helping our younger children cross the road and supplying the muffins and apples. Thanks to Ms Hayes for liaising with the PA and co-ordinating the event in school. Our Annual School Walk is an important fundraiser for our school. Children can return their sponsor cards to their class teachers.
