Flags for Schools
As part of Ireland’s Centenary Programme to commemorate the 1916 Rising, Óglaigh na hÉireann, the Defence Forces, delivered a handmade national Flag and a copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic to our school.
The presentation took place on Monday 16th November 2015 at 12:30pm.
We welcomed past pupil Captain Gemma Fagan and Corporal Graham Fitzgerald to our school. They presented the flag and the Proclamation to members of our green school’s committee and student’s council.
Captain Gemma Fagan read part of the Proclamation and a pupil from the student’s council read paragraph four of the document.
The presentation included a history of the national flag and the correct protocol for its use. She also explained that pupils in all schools are invited to write a new proclamation for 2016 to reflect the hopes and aspirations of their generation. We all sang our national anthem too.
Our pupils will be learning a lot about the events and significance of 1916 over the coming months, culminating in the raising of the national flag on ‘Proclamation Day’ March 15th 2016.
Here are some photos of the visit of Captain Gemma Fagan and Corporal Graham Fitzgerald, to present us with our national flag and copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic.

As part of Maths Week Ireland the whole school was involved in a variety of maths activities throughout the week. 3rd to 6th took part in a Maths Challenge. They had to work co-operatively and solve lots of problems within a specified time. Everyone worked really well and enjoyed themselves as they tried to complete the questions.
Junior to 2nd classes had fun in the library as they worked with the wide range of Maths equipment. They were involved with activities using the sand, water, skittles, 2D and 3D shapes, weighing scales and balances, measuring worms and metre sticks. They also enjoyed snakes and ladders, number bingo, dice and card games as well as buying and selling in the shop
Some classes completed the Maths trail around the school.
A great week for all !!! Caitriona O’ Reilly
