Coiste Glas

There are thirteen members representing every class from 3rd to 6th on the Green Schools Committee this year. These hardworking and dedicated children meet every Thursday at 8:15 for a committee meeting with Ms Larkin, Ms Lanigan and Ms Hayes. At our meeting we discuss upcoming Green Schools initiatives, projects we want to take on and competitions we want to run. Each member of the committee represents their own class as well as a buddy class. They keep their buddy class updated on events that are happening.

The children empty all of the compost bins and recycling bins around the school every Thursday morning. Members of the committee speak at Tionól on Friday to keep the school updated on what we are doing and any upcoming event or initiatives.

We are currently working towards our 8th Green Flag, it is about Global Citizenship and Marine Environment. As part of our work toward our 8th Green Flag, we have been learning about the Global Goals. Some members of the committee attended a Marine Environment Workshop in November and have brought back some great ideas of how to reduce plastic use in the school.

The Green Schools Committee encourage the children to walk and cycle to school. In September we encouraged the whole school to walk, cycle, scoot or park and stride to school. The Green Schools Committee went to different walking points to encourage people to walk and stride. The committee also run lots competitions over the year and have something very exciting planned for after Christmas so stay tuned!

As part of Dublin Climate Week, we organised a clothing and electrical collection. We will be organising more collections over the course of the year as well as our Action Day, Green Schools Week and many more exciting events and activities.
