Sport in Divine Word National School flourishes thanks to an extremely interested and committed staff, who give of their free time – lunchtimes and after school –training teams and athletes in a range of different sporting activities GAA: football, hurling and camogie, soccer and hockey.
GAA – We enter teams in girls' football and camóige, boys' football and hurling in the Cumann na mBunscoil leagues.
Athletics – We train and enter a team in the Santry Schools Athletics Competition.
Each class benefits from the expertise of our outside coaches from Ballinteer Saint Johns and De La Salle, Palmerstown.
Each Senior class also participates in a six week swimming programme of instruction in the DLR Meadowbrook.
We organise an annual Sports' Day in which the children run in races against others of similar ability, in relay races and in novelty races.
This year we hope to work towards our first Active Flag.
